I araptec and downloaded VueScan and it worked perfectly with a still perfectly good year-old scanner. I have even tried agau2w the file as below with no effect.
I would also try going into device manager and throwing out the scsi card, then add a legacy device by hand, and point it to the driver folder. Aha uw xp was beginning to wonder if you still monitor this page. Perhaps that could be of help as well.
